NORTH HEIDELBURG TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A teen driver who was involved in an ambulance crash Tuesday admitted to smoking marijuana beforehand, according to police.
WFMZ reported that the Western Berks Ambulance rig was transporting a patient to the hospital when it crashed into a car that pulled out in front of it, officials said.
Police said the ambulance slid after trying to stop, hit the car and rolled over, ending up on the guardrail on the opposite side of the road.

An EMT, paramedic and the patient inside the ambulance were all transported to the hospital after the crash, along with two teens who were in the other vehicle.
“Immediately following the crash, crews from Western Berks Ambulance and Muhlenberg Area Ambulance Association responded to cover and handle the patients out of the crash,” Western Berks Ambulance executive director Anthony Tucci said. “Again, we have control of the road. Making sure that vehicles stop is the best thing for us, so that we can get by safely.”
State police said the 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash occurred.
Tucci urged drivers to pay attention to emergency vehicles while on the road.
“As we’ve driven on down the road, (on) numerous occasions, vehicles don’t stop or yield to the ambulance,” he said. “Vehicles traveling the opposing way in traffic without a divider are supposed to stop and yield to the ambulance. That never happens anymore.”
All individuals involved in the crash are in stable condition with minor to moderate injuries.
