UPDATE at 3:42 p.m. April 19

Police officers have taken a suspect into custody after an hours-long SWAT standoff on Tuesday afternoon.

The same person was apprehended Monday night after police responded to a burglary and were led on a chase.

Officers arrested the suspect, who was charged with burglary of habitation, evading arrest and possessing methamphetamine. Because he was injured during the chase, he was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Around 10 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect became hostile with a nurse and fought two officers. In the second fight with an officer, the man’s hospital gown was torn off, and he ran naked out of the hospital and stole an ambulance.

An EMS crew had been delivering a patient. They were not hurt.

After the ambulance crash Tuesday, the suspect made it on foot to a home about four miles from the crash site, where a SWAT team surrounded him and brought the situation to a close.
