GREEN CREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Paramedic Sandra Cline, 45, the driver of a LifeStar ambulance, died early Friday morning from injuries sustained in a Thursday evening collision with an SUV.

The two-vehicle intersection collision happened Thursday evening after William A. Bluethmann, driving a 2013 Dodge Journey SUV, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the ambulance, reported the Ohio State Highway Patrol to the Sandusky Register.

The collision caused the ambulance to rollover. A witness told troopers Cline might have been thrown from the ambulance, but troopers could not independently confirm that information.

“She was unconscious,” Sgt. Justin Powell said. “Several witnesses assisted at the scene.”

Cline was transported by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo with life-threatening injuries.

Bluethmann, the SUV driver, Chris Nelson, 42, a member of the LifeStar ambulance crew and the ambulance crew’s patient, Toni Johnson, 45, also were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and it remains under investigation.
