WATERLOO, Iowa — A veteran flight paramedic reached a career milestone of 3,000 patient flights after 25 years on the job.

The Courier reported that Steve Fuller was recognized by Covenant Medical Center’s Air Care team with a plaque after reaching the milestone.

“It’s quite a milestone to reach in a flight career,” Fuller said. “I’ve stayed with the program since I was hired in 1991. I thoroughly enjoy coming to work and enjoy what I do. I like the challenge.”

“You can probably count on one hand the number of people in this state who have 3,000 flights,” fellow flight paramedic Mark Mahler said. “You’ve got to do the job for decades to get that far.”

Not only does Fuller volunteer for area community ambulances, he’s also an instructor trainer of fire and safety for NASCAR at the Iowa Speedway and has taught fire service for Texas A&M for the last 12 years.

“I have no desire to retire,” Fuller said. “I like what I do, I love what I do. I love coming here and doing this job.”
