RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — A helicopter transporting a patient from rural Nevada to UC Davis Medical Center made an emergency landing in the Rancho Cordova area Wednesday afternoon.
Capt. Michelle Eidam of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, said the Care Flight helicopter landed safely about 5:30 p.m. in a field near 10424 Investment Circle in Rancho Cordova. The pilot made the landing after reporting smoke in the helicopter.
Eidam said the helicopter was transporting a toddler with non-life-threatening injuries. A Sacramento Metro ambulance responded and transported the child and a nurse to UC Davis Medical Center.
Eidam said no one aboard the helicopter was injured during the landing. She said a helicopter mechanic determined that an air conditioning fan belt caused the smoke and the helicopter should be able to leave the landing site under its own power.
