GENEVA, N.Y. — A 9/11 stone memorial erected in Geneva in honor of first responders was found covered with spray paint, and now the Geneva Police Department is looking for any information that leads to the people responsible.

Police received a criminal mischief report and found a vandalized 9/11 stone memorial covered with spray paint, the New York Post reported.

“You know those people; you see those people ... the firefighters, the police officers, EMTs, all those first responders,” Adam Blowes said. “And to have the work that they do be treated that way is sort of unfortunate.”

A resident doesn’t think the vandalization had a real significance. “I think its kids being kids doing stupid stuff. I come down here all the time and find garbage left from damage done by kids.” Philip Herrick said.

For first responders who were at ground zero, the incident had more of an impact. “It brings it all back to us when more attention is played onto it by people doing damaging things, saying damaging things,” Andrew Stromfeld said. “It makes it a lot harder.”
