Victim, rescuer both injured after fall into Calif. river

PARADISE — An unidentified person fell into Feather River and an emergency responder was injured in a rescue attempt in the west branch of Feather River Sunday night.

The victim was walking with at least one other person on Feather River, on the east side of Feather River Hospital, at the time of the accident, said Cal Fire Capt. Tim Person. The victim is alive but in unknown condition, as is the injured responder.

The accident was reported at 6:17 p.m., with the first emergency responders arriving at 6:23 p.m. and the last victim walking out at 7:56 p.m., Person said.

Butte County Sheriff, Butte County Fire, Search and Rescue, Cal Fire, Paradise Fire, Chico Fire and First Responder Ambulance were all called out to the scene.
