PHILADELPHIA — Shortly after crashing her Ford Taurus in a four-vehicle accident in East Goshen, Regina Whitehead called her insurance company to add comprehensive collision coverage to her policy, authorities said.
She was in an ambulance when she made the call, they said.
Whitehead, 23, of the 1900 block of South Alden Street, Philadelphia, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of criminal attempt to commit theft by deception.
According to the criminal complaint, Whitehead did not have comprehensive or collision insurance when she got into the accident on West Chester Pike on Oct. 6, 2011. But a friend advised her to add it so she would be covered.
The charges state that she called Infinity Insurance of Trevose from an ambulance on the way to Chester County Hospital in West Chester. She then filed a claim and said she got the coverage before the accident happened.
Whitehead was arraigned in Bensalem before District Judge Joseph P. Falcone and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24 before Falcone.
