LISBON, Ohio — An EMT was arrested after allegedly stealing money from a deceased patient.
WKBN reported that John McGuire was arrested after a firefighter claimed to have witnessed him place Mel Bricker’s money clip in his pocket.
Bricker had been test driving a truck in his backyard when he crashed into some trees and died, and the firefighter said McGuire stole the money as he was moving his body.
Police said they later found the money clip in McGuire’s pocket.
“How could anybody do this to a man that just lost his life?” Bricker’s daughter, April Curfman, said. “I mean, the worst night of my life and then on top of it, somebody stealing from my dad just made it even worse.”
Curfman said she chooses not to think about McGuire’s actions, but instead remembers the responders who rushed to help her father.
“I made one phone call. Before I knew it, there were tri-county members everywhere. And one phone call is all it took,” she said.
