CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The body of a Perry County man was found Monday afternoon, near where his car was wrecked Friday on Pa. 322.

Pennsylvania State Police spokesperson Trooper Michele Davis said troopers out of PSP Newport were on patrol about 2:45 a.m. Friday when they found a Chevrolet Cavalier on an embankment near the Millerstown exit in Greenwood Township.

Troopers and other emergency responders searched the area for the car’s driver, but did not find him. Police identified the driver as Gary Dixon, 25, Shermans Dale, and tried unsuccessfuly to contact him through his friends and family members.

A preliminary investigation determined that the car was traveling east on the off ramp of Pa. 322 east when its passenger side struck a guide rail on a left hand curve. It continued through the intersection of west Juniata Parkway and crossed both travel lanes.

Police said the Cavalier then struck another guide rail running parallel to west Juniata Parkway and became airborne. It landed on the embankment parallel to Pa. 322 east and continued to travel down the hill, finally coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Concerned for his well being, Dixon’s family contacted state police Monday. Troopers returned to the scene of the crash about noon to conduct another search. Dixon was subsequently found deceased in a wooded area, about 70 yards from where the vehicle had come to rest.

Davis said it was determined that Dixon was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car during the crash.
