DAYTONA BEACH — Shocking footage filmed from the stands at Daytona International Speedway shows the moment when debris from yesterday’s massive multi-car pile-up flew into the packed crowd injuring at least 28 fans — including a 14-year-old boy who is in a critical condition.
The terrifying scene unfolds during the last lap as Kyle Larson’s car is catapulted by the crash into a catch fence separating the tens-of thousands of fans from the track - almost shearing the car in half.
And as the fiery wrecks filter past the section of the speedway hit, the footage filmed by spectator Tyler Andersen reveals that a tire has landed amidst the crowd after the crash which has raised growing questions about fan safety for NASCAR organizers.
