CENTREVILLE, Md. — Authorities say a motor coach bus carrying a kindergarten class on a Washington-bound field trip swerved to avoid an SUV and overturned in a field on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, injuring 17 people, including 10 children.
Maryland State Police say the bus with 35 people on board swerved when a Volkswagen SUV pulled into its path on Route 213 near Centreville on Thursday morning. The bus hit a utility pole and overturned. Video from television stations show the bus on its side in a Queen Anne’s County field.
The kindergarteners and chaperones from Worton Elementary School in Kent County were headed to the National Zoo.
Police say one of the injured adults was flown to a Baltimore hospital. The others, including the SUV driver, were taken to hospitals with minor injuries
