SOUTH WHITTIER, Calif. — Seven people, including five children, were hospitalized with moderate injuries from a two-car head-on collision Monday night in the unincorporated South Whittier area.

The crash involving two small vehicles, one of which was carrying five children and two adults, at the intersection of Leffingwell and Meyer roads was reported at 7:27 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

Paramedics took five children and two adults to three hospitals with moderate injuries, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher said.

“All the injuries were reported as lacerations,” said Posada, adding there were no broken bones.

A video crew at the scene reported the ages of the children as 4, 5, two 8-year-olds and one 11-year-old.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. The collision was being investigated by the CHP, Posada said.
