WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A two-vehicle crash at routes 534 and 322 in Hambden Township sent 12 people to five local emergency rooms Sunday afternoon, the Windsor Township Fire Department reports.

A van involved in the crash also slammed into a house at the intersection.

Victims were transported to Geauga Medical Center, Hillcrest Hospital, St, Joseph’s Hospital, Tri-Point Medical Center and Trumbull Memorial Hospital, the fire department reports.

Mutual aid was provided by the Orwell fire and police departments, South Central Ambulance District, and Hambden, Montville, Burton, Chardon and Bristol fire departments, as dispatched by the Ashtabula County sherriff’s department.

The south county crash Sunday came after a tractor-trailer crash shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Conneaut for more than eight hours late Saturday night and early Sunday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.

The tractor-trailer flipped on its side between Route 193 and Route 7, OHP reports.

The weather was a contributing factor in both crashes, the Windsor Fire Department and OHP reported, and the forecast doesn’t look much warmer, or less snowy, over the next few days.

The National Weather Service’s winter weather advisory ended Saturday night, but the NWS immediately issued another lake effect snow warning for the area on Sunday afternoon, despite Punxetawney Phil’s prediction of an early spring.

The latest advisory, which will last until Tuesday morning, predicts five to 10 more inches of snow across the region, mostly through Monday night. Temperatures during that time could drop to as low as 11 degrees.

Snow showers are expected to continue through Tuesday, with some relief on Wednesday, when temperatures could reach 30 degrees, the NWS predicts.
