PASADENA, Calif. — A suicidal 48-year-old man who jumped 50 feet from a power line tower in Pasadena tonight survived the fall when he landed on an air bag placed by firefighters.

Officers responded around 3:45 p.m. to a report that a despondent male had scaled the tower at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Kinneloa Street, according to Pasadena police.

A police crisis negotiating team tried to talk the man down until around 10 p.m. when he jumped from the tower and landed on the rescue airbag deployed by the Pasadena Fire Department. He was detained and taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said. Streets in the area had been cordoned off while negotiations were occurring.
