West Shore EMS (PA) Announces Replaced Scheduling with Aladtec’s EMS Manager

This agency estimates they will save the salary of one full-time employee annually by using EMS Manager to schedule their 200 members at 22 locations.

Philadelphia, PA - It’s hard to imagine scheduling 200 people at 22 different locations on a spreadsheet but many agencies, both large and small, hesitate to switch to a better method. They may worry it’s too expensive or the transition will be too difficult.

Although many scheduling systems are expensive, affordable options are available. Depending on an agency’s size, transitioning to an online employee scheduling system and training members to use it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.

Douglas E. Bitner, Assistant Chief West Shore EMS (Emergency Medical Service) – South Division, Camp Hill, PA was determined to find a better way to schedule his staff without spending a small fortune. After a bit of preliminary research, he evaluated a number of different online employee scheduling systems.

“I chose EMS Manager because I really liked the functions of the system and it’s really user friendly. It’s a subscription based system with no additional, or hidden, fees. This made the system an easy sell to our administrative team. We’ll save a tremendous number of hours in scheduling every month. Over the course of a year I suspect we will save the equivalent of one full-time salaried position, and allow that staff member to complete other administrative tasks,” shares Bitner.

After evaluating EMS Manager, Bitner indicates there were a number of additional reasons he chose the system including:

  • The ability for members to sign up for shifts, submit their availability and make time off requests from any computer or mobile device with Internet capabilities
  • Announcements and information can be communicated to staff immediately through instant messaging, texting or emailing
  • The ability for staff to trade shifts within set schedule dynamics without management involvement

“We just had our first staff meeting since I rolled out EMS Manager and when I asked for any questions or concerns on the system...all I heard were crickets. Everyone is thrilled with the system. Also, the company’s customer service is awesome - my sales rep Ericka Hawkins is simply the greatest!” Bitner concludes.

Located in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, West Shore EMS is a community focused health care support system sponsored by the Sisters of Christian Charity. Covering a large geographic area in Central Pennsylvania, they offer emergency and non-emergency patient care and transport
service to approximately a half a million people.
