Queen Anne’s County EMS Reports $40,000 in Savings Using Aladtec’s EMS Manager

EMS Manager provides a 70% reduction in unscheduled overtime - worth its weight in gold.

Hudson, WI – Going paperless and switching to online employee scheduling has become “worth its weight in gold” says Andrew Blackwood, EMS Sergeant for Queen Anne’s County EMS in Centreville, Maryland. Prior to scheduling online, like many public safety agencies, QACEMS used spreadsheets and phone calls to fill out their shift schedules. They were confronted with problems handling shift trades, availability, and not having an easily accessible schedule for their members.

“Dealing with scheduling related emails and phone calls had become a full-time job and it was starting to feel like there was no solution in sight,” says Andrew Blackwood. In early 2009, however, QACEMS implemented Aladtec’s EMS Manager® and saw an instant return on investment. Blackwood states, “I can truly say that EMS Manager returns man-hours to you; I went from spending fifteen hours a week to two on the schedule...after only three months of use, we determined that we had already saved enough in overtime reduction to more than pay for the entire year’s EMS Manager subscription.” After one year of use, Blackwood adds, “we have already received an estimated overtime savings of $40,000, a 70% reduction in unscheduled overtime.”

Blackwood attributes the savings to EMS Manager’s ability to enforce company rules on availability submissions and shift changes such as shift trades, time-off requests, and shift sign-ups. He says that these features “not only help keep things fair amongst members, they also prevent unwanted surprises.” All EMS Manager systems can be set to require administrator approval for multiple types of shift changes.

In addition to online scheduling, Blackwood mentions that they also use EMS Manager to manage employee data and information, for inter-service chats and conversations, and with tighter integration with dispatch.
