Company Takes Home Awards for Best Web Column and Best Web e-Newsletter
SAN FRANCISCO - The Praetorian Group, the leading online media company in the public safety market, announced it has taken home two top awards at the Western Publishers Association’s 2009 Maggie Awards. Each year, the Maggie Awards honor the best print publications and Web sites in the Western United States, including top media such as CNET, PC World and Entrepreneur.
FireRescue1.com and EMS1.com, leading online resources for the firefighting community and EMS personnel, respectively, took home the awards for Best Regularly Featured Web Column/Trade and Best Web E-Newsletter/Trade.
FireRescue1 received the Best Regularly Featured Web Column/Trade award for Close Calls on Camera, written by Jason Poremba, a New York firefighter and the owner of firefighting video Web site FirefighterSpot.com. The monthly column is an innovative combination of dramatic firefighting videos with analysis and instruction, providing readers the unique ability to learn important safety lessons from incidents caught on tape.
EMS1.com received the Best Web E-Newsletter/Trade award for the EMS1 eNews, a twice-weekly round-up of the latest EMS news, analysis, products and video. Judged both on design and content, the EMS1 eNews beat out a field that included My Yoga Mentor and CW Bulletin, as well as FireRescue1’s eNews.
“We are honored to receive awards that recognize us not only as the leader in online media for public safety, but also acknowledge our editorial expertise among a much broader segment of trade media,” said Alex Ford, CEO of the Praetorian Group. “This recognition further validates our ongoing efforts to provide critical, lifesaving resources to a significant segment of the first responder population across the U.S. and beyond.”
The Praetorian Group received eight nominations for the 2009 Maggie Awards across its primary online portals: Police1.com, FireRescue1.com and EMS1.com. The eight nominations ranked the company among the most-nominated media companies for this year’s awards, and surpassed Praetorian’s total of four nominations from 2008.
The Maggie Awards, the Western Publications Association’s most prestigious publishing event, honors editorial, design and promotion excellence in magazine, tabloid, newsletter and online publishing. The Western Publications Association has represented magazine publishers and companies who interact with magazine publishing industry for over 50 years. The WPA presents more than a thousand Maggie Award nominations each year to publications across the Western United States.
