Two U.S. public safety operations awarded free notification services to alert residents, first responders during emergencies
Nashville, Tenn. — Dialogic Communications Corporation (DCC), the industry leader in emergency notification technology, recently announced the winners of its 2005 Grant Program. The recipients are:
Santa Cruz Consolidated Emergency Communications Center, Calif.; and Clackamas County Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Ore.
DCC has awarded each operation with two years of free access to its Web-based notification solutions, Communicator! NXT and GeoCast Web. The software will be used to automatically alert local residents and mobilize first responders in times of emergency. Uses generally include severe weather, natural disasters, missing persons, terrorist threats and other potentially dangerous situations.
“Communication is key to securing public safety and protecting the homeland,” said Gene Kirby, DCC’s president and CEO. “Now, Santa Cruz and Clackamas counties have the ability to communicate with anyone-including residents, government officials or even the media-from virtually anywhere. We are thrilled to mark the fifth year of our emergency notification grant program by awarding these two very deserving operations.”
Communicator! NXT is a powerful, Internet-based calling engine. It rapidly sends voice and text messages to all types of communications devices, including phone, email, pager and fax. It also gathers all-important feedback. The software is powered by Microsoft.NET and SQL technologies and can be accessed from any location using the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser.
GeoCast Web works in tandem with Communicator! NXT. This GIS-driven software provides remote access to digital, street-level maps for notification purposes. Users can target and then alert specific geographic areas ranging from a single city block to an entire county. The two winners will receive comprehensive Web-based training for both products and a software maintenance and technical support contract for the two-year term.
“We are committed to helping organizations across the U.S. strengthen their homeland security and public safety programs,” said Kirby. “Santa Cruz and Clackamas were selected because they took a real, outside-the-box approach to using our technology. We are excited to begin working with both, and we think this will be a tremendous benefit to their residents and local community.”
Santa Cruz and Clackamas counties were selected out of a pool of nearly 400 public safety organizations who inquired about the grant program. The two winners most effectively demonstrated an innovative plan to incorporate DCC’s technology into their emergency response and public safety efforts. They join a growing list of organizations across the country that rely on DCC for emergency notification every day.
Previous grant winners include Hollywood Police Department, FL; Broken Arrow Police Department, OK; City of Rocky Mount, NC; Police Department of Mutchen, NJ; North Carolina’s Union County Sheriff’s Department; the Police Department of Sheboygan, WI; and the Valley Emergency Communications Center, UT.
DCC’s Emergency Notification Grant Program was established in 2001. The company is beginning to make plans for 2006 now, and will provide information to public safety operations and the media early next year.
