COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nine children were treated at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for minor injuries suffered late yesterday afternoon when their school bus collided with a car on the East Side.

The children, ages 5 to 13, attend Millennium Community School on Hamilton Road. Six of the children were taken to Children’s by ambulance and three others were taken to the hospital by parents, said Linda L. Rodgers, superintendent of the charter school.

None of the children were admitted to the hospital, she said.

Some of the children were being taken to Woodcrest Elementary School on Livingston Avenue, a drop-off point for pickup by parents.

The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. when the bus and a Toyota Camry collided near the intersection of Livingston and Woodcrest Road. The bus driver’s name wasn’t released.

Residents in the area said the bus appeared to be turning left from Woodcrest onto a service road a few feet south of Livingston when it struck the car, which was heading north on Woodcrest.

Jean Walke, 56, of the East Side, was the driver of the car, according to Walke’s daughter, Michelle Caldwell.

Walke was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to her head and back, said Walke’s son-in-law, Gordon Caldwell.

The crash remained under investigation last night.
