emsCharts Software Releases Quality Assurance Module Enhancements

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – emsCharts, Inc. today announced new enhancements to their Quality Assurance module as part of their web-based, pre-hospital data collection and management system.

By popular demand, emsCharts, Inc. has added the ability for EMS providers to include blind and double-blind quality assurance measures on patient documentation as part of their QA/QCI procedures. Quality assurance and improvement is an extremely important process in most EMS agencies. The emsCharts system allows EMS providers to perform QA electronically on pre-hospital patient records. The new blind QA functionality now presents the ability for blind peer review, meaning that the personnel performing the QA review cannot see the time, location, patient identity, or identities of the crew members on the EMS call. Double-blind QA is similar to blind QA, but additionally hides the identity of the personnel performing the quality assurance review. By obscuring identifying factors on the patient record, the hope is that EMS agencies can minimize the role of “office politics” in the QA process and provide a more qualitative analysis.

EMS administrators with proper permissions can choose to override the blind and double-blind functions for certain personnel. QA Supervisors, for example, may need to review all details of QA activity on a patient record.

The addition of the new functions was driven solely by customer requests on emsCharts forums. Customer requested functions often find their way into the emsCharts software – a practice that emsCharts has upheld since its inception.

“We’re pleased to be able to include the new features as part of our base software package,” Vice President Pete Goutmann says of the enhancements. “Current customers and new customers alike will be able to take advantage of these changes immediately, at no extra charge.”

The blind and double-blind QA features are available now. Current emsCharts customers can refer to the Support Technote for information on configuring these features. For more information on this or other emsCharts products and features, contact emsCharts directly.
