Institute in Jamaica to deliver EMT lessons via interactive software

Software will allow students to study at their convenience

Jamaica Observer

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Health, Education and Counselling Institute (Hecion) is to shortly launch an interactive software for the delivery of its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programme. The software, which has been successfully tested overseas, will guide students through detailed objectives of the curriculum, assisted at intervals by clinical instructors.

“The user-friendly software is so detailed and interactive that if the student decides to move away from the computer for a few minutes, the system will send a signal to the instructor that the student is not responding within the given time,” explains Colin O Jarrett, Hecoin’s vice president of administration, finance and international marketing.

He says the software will allow students to study at their convenience — six weeks, 12 weeks, or 25 weeks — and will not require them to attend lecture presentations for more than three to four times per month.
