GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Between 30 and 40 languages are spoken in Grand Island, and that can present a challenge to emergency personnel.
To help them communicate with the city’s diverse population, the Grand Island Fire Department has acquired two Enabling Language Services Anywhere devices.
The devices give emergency personnel access to translators for 180 languages and dialects, Fire Chief Cory Schmidt said. “This will help bridge gaps,” Schmidt said. “We are the only department in Nebraska with this technology.”
