MOUNT HOLLY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A father and son who are both members of the Springfield Township Emergency Medical Services volunteer squad were accused of using company debit cards for personal purchases and bills for a combined total of nearly $30,000.
Ronald Knighten, 51, served as the squad’s treasurer and was charged with theft by deception and misapplication of entrusted property. Benjamin Knighten, 23, was charged with theft by deception. They both surrendered to authorities on Thursday, NJ.com reports.
The investigation into squad finances uncovered that $30,000 was “misappropriated on diverse dates” between 2013 and 2015. Another squad member suspected thefts were taking place, which prompted the investigation.
