LANCASTER, Pa. — Two people were injured Saturday when an ambulance responding to an emergency collided with a van on Old Philadelphia Pike.

The accident happened about 10:30 p.m. at Old Philadelphia Pike and Horseshoe Road in East Lampeter Township.

The van, being driven south on Horseshoe Road by Justin Zimmerman, 19, of Brownstown, collided with the ambulance that was traveling on Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340), police said.

Justin Parrish, 35, of Leola, was driving the ambulance, owned by Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association, police said. The ambulance’s emergency lights were on and its siren was activated.

Zimmerman and Parrish were extricated from the wreckage and taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment, police said.

A hospital spokeswoman said they were discharged Sunday.

A passenger in the ambulance, a paramedic trainee, was not injured, police said.

The accident was still under investigation Monday.
