The Record
EMERSON, N.J. — The borough’s volunteer ambulance corps must revise its bylaws and keep better records on vehicle use after two emergency medical technicians were cited for conducting an “illegal motor vehicle stop” earlier this year.
The Borough Council instituted the changes in response to an April incident involving the daughter of the Cresskill police chief that eventually led to the suspensions of the two volunteers — the full details of which were made public by the borough just this week.
Emerson Volunteer Ambulance Corps Capt. Dave Mason and fellow EMT Chris Vaporakis were handed three-month suspensions by the council this summer in a closed-session meeting. The punishments, which would be staggered to minimize disruption to the 27-person unit, were set to begin after the borough received a waiver of liability from the victim, documents state.
