ROCK HILL, S.C. — A South Carolina paramedic who survived a severe case of COVID-19 was cheered this week as she was discharged from a rehab facility after a month away from home.
Piedmont Medical Center EMS Paramedic Pearl Lemieux, who serves as a field training officer, was diagnosed with the virus in early April and spent a week at the Encompass Health rehab facility following three weeks of hospitalization, according to WMBF News.
Upon leaving Encompass Health, Lemieux was greeted by a crowd of applauding first responders and community members, as well as multiple emergency vehicles.
Lemieux told WMBF that when she first entered the facility she was too weak to stand, but was able to walk out a week later on her own two feet.
She said she has received “nothing but 100% support” from her public safety family and offered well wishes for other COVID-19 survivors.
