OAK BLUFFS, Mass. — A college student who lost her leg in a moped crash thanked the first responders who saved her.
Vineyard Gazette reported that Noelle Lambert rented a moped with her friend in July 2016 to take a tour of Martha’s Vineyard. Lambert lost control and crashed into a dump truck, resulting in the loss of her left leg.
The University of Massachusetts lacrosse player returned to give thanks to the responders who treated her at the scene.
“I remember knowing that we needed to act fast to make a difference,” Oak Bluffs Fire Chief John Rose said.
Lambert spent four days in the hospital and a week in rehab before returning home, where she is recovering well with her prosthetic leg.
“Hasn’t slowed her down at all,” her father, Jeffrey Lambert, said. “She’s been parasailing, jet skiing.”
The responders were impressed by her resilience throughout the trauma.
“We’re glad you came, because usually you go through something like this, it’s this intense short period of time, and then the patient’s gone,” EMT Jim Davin, who was with her on the air ambulance flight, said.
“This is why we train so hard,” Chief Rose said. “We make the sacrifices that we make every day for this type of outcome, for somebody who is so amazing, like she is, just so positive.”
Lambert handed out custom T-shirts to the responders and spoke with them individually and in groups.
“This past Thanksgiving I was with my family, we all thought we should come down and say thank you because I wouldn’t be here without any of you guys,” Lambert said. “There’s not enough times I can say thank you.”
