NILES, Ill. — Nearly six years ago, paramedics delivered a baby in an ambulance after her mother went into labor. This week, she was reunited with the crew who helped bring her into the world and the rig she was born in.
Phoebe Block, 5, visited Niles Fire Department Ambulance No. 3, the same ambulance she was born in when her mother, Dayle Block, went into labor on Dec. 21, 2013.
There was no time to make it to the hospital, so the EMS crew delivered Phoebe while parked in front of their house.
“My neighbors were having their Christmas party, so they got to be there for all of it,” Dayle said. “But it was cool because my husband got to hold her the whole way to the hospital.”
The crew attended Phoebe’s first birthday, and the sight of ambulances has delighted her ever since.
“As soon as she was old enough to say anything, anytime she heard an ambulance or even saw an ambulance, she would point at it because she knew that’s where she was born,” Dayle said.
