Medic assaulted by patient that fled ambulance

Police officer and medic received minor injuries while taking suspect into custody

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A man who fled from police at a hospital after a vehicle accident was caught soon after, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

At 3:10 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s department responded to a vehicle accident at St. Joe Center and Mayhew roads. When officers arrived, one of the drivers complained of pain and was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

An officer followed the ambulance to the hospital due to the fact of possible impairment, according to a news release. After arriving at the hospital, the suspect – identified as Lorenzo T. Crosby, 26 – allegedly fled and was apprehended in the hospital parking lot by police and paramedics. Both the officer and a paramedic received minor injuries while taking Crosby into custody. He was booked into the Allen County Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement and battery to the police officer and paramedic, according to the release. Alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor, with future charges to follow; both the officer and paramedic were treated and released from the hospital, according to the release.
