GASTONIA, N.C. — A woman with a history of drunken driving is accused of assaulting first responders who came to help her Tuesday.
Sylvia Mason Hashish, 55, of 4125 Linwood Road in Gastonia, wrecked her car near her house and the intersection of McSwain Grove Road just before 6 p.m. Officers reported she had an odor of alcohol on her breath and had admitted to drinking and driving.
The wreck occurred after she slapped a man in the face and then tried to flee in her vehicle, according to police.
Hashish wasn’t content on staying at the scene of the single-car wreck, according to her arrest citation. She allegedly tried to flee on foot, and then slapped Gastonia Officer A.M. Fulton across the chest while Fulton attempted to escort her back to the scene.
The Gastonia woman then allegedly bit a paramedic tending to her injuries on the finger. She gave Fulton a false name while the officer investigated the wreck, according to an arrest warrant.
Hashish refused to be tested for her blood-alcohol level, but officers were granted a search warrant to take her blood. She was charged with impaired driving, assaulting an emergency worker, resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger, failing to surrender her license, assault on a government official and exceeding a safe speed.
Hashish previously served a year in prison beginning in 2007 after being convicted in Macon County of habitual impaired driving.
She remains in Gaston County Jail under $76,000 bond.
