Mass. woman charged with assaulting EMS providers, police at overdose call

Police said the woman became combative and assaulted several EMS providers and bit two police officers when they tried to restrain her

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — A woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting EMS personnel and police who had responded to a suspected overdose.

Police and emergency medical services personnel responded to the Moby Dick Motel on Route 6 in Dartmouth at about 4 p.m. for the suspected overdose of two patrons, a male and a female. The male needed to be revived with Narcan, but the woman became combative and assaulted several EMS staff, according to the Dartmouth Police Department.

Police then tried to restrain her, and she bit two police officers, according to Dartmouth police.

Crystal Andrade, 35, homeless, was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated and evaluated. She was arrested and charged with four counts of assault and battery on ambulance personnel and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.

No public safety personnel were seriously injured.
