BURLINGTON, Vt. — An accident involving a South Burlington ambulance on its way to a call killed a Vergennes man.
Raymond D. Hebert, 23, was pronounced dead at Fletcher Allen Health Care shortly after the 10:30 a.m. Friday accident. Hebert was hit broadside by the ambulance at the intersection of Williston Road and Spear Street, Burlington Police Lt. Scott Davidson said.
About seven other vehicles were involved in the crash, but they mostly sustained bent fenders and scratched paint, Davidson said. Police said the ambulance, driven by South Burlington firefighter John Goodrich, was headed east on Williston Road on its way to a medical emergency when it struck the Honda Accord driven by Hebert, who had just exited Spear Street on to Williston Road. Goodrich and his passenger, fellow firefighter Edward Spooner, were not injured in the collision.
