CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — A Republic man who was tired of waiting for a ride home from Highlands Hospital found his own ride.

According to Connellsville police, David Wilson Sr., 43, is facing a number of charges today after police allege he stole an ambulance from the Connellsville hospital late last night.

According to WPXI, the Daily Courier’s news partner, Wilson led police from several departments on a chase before he crashed the stolen ambulance on Route 201, just outside of Vanderbilt.

No injuries were reported.

Rick Adobato, Fayette EMS chief, said the ambulance was stolen from the hospital at 9:30 p.m. Adobato said the ambulance crew immediately notified EMS dispatch and Fayette County 911 was called.

Connellsville police responded.

Adobato said all Fayette EMS ambulances are equipped with automated vehicle locators. Adobato said Fayette EMS supervisors stayed in contact with Fayette 911 dispatchers giving police updated locations of the stolen ambulance.

Connellsville police were assisted by officers from South Connellsville and state police.

Wilson was stopped and arrested in Franklin Township at 9:42 p.m.

Adobato said the ambulance sustained approximately $4,000 in damage when it struck a utility pole just past the hospital entrance.

Connellsville police said more information would be released later today.
