ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A New Mexico State cop who was the first on the scene of a rollover helped lift a car off of an 8-year-old girl who was trapped underneath.

Officer Steven Nuñez and four passersby stopped to help the girl who was face down and unconscious under the vehicle.

“We had no tools, and a male subject came and brought a floor jack,” Nuñez told KRQE. “He tried jacking up the vehicle, but it wasn’t working.”

The five men rolled the vehicle back onto its side and pulled the vehicle off of the girl.

The girl, who wasn’t wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, was airlifted to the hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition, according to the Daily Mail.

Nunez told media he was thankful they were able to rescue the girl and that the four bystanders had stopped to help him.

“Without them I could not have completed this alone,” he said.

The girl’s mother, who was driving the vehicle, was able to get herself out. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
