LYNCHBURG, Va. — If you have a fire or medical emergency in the city, you’ll receive help more quickly than the average American.
In a presentation to Lynchburg City Council on Tuesday, the Fire and EMS Department showed that the first engine arrived on scene in an average 7 minutes and 16 seconds - a full 2 minutes and 44 seconds under the national standard of 10 minutes.
The first medical unit, which handles heart attacks, strokes and trauma, arrives on scene within 4½ minutes - a full 1 minute and 24 seconds under the national standard.
