DERBY, England — Thieves stole a satellitenavigation system from an ambulance while paramedics were treating an elderly man in Derby.
East Midlands Ambulance Service said the culprits “should be ashamed”.
It was taken from the ambulance when it was outside a house in Hillcrest Road at midnight on Monday.
Paramedics had been called there after an elderly man fell at his home and needed to go to hospital.
They left the vehicle unlocked while they went inside.
When they returned minutes later, the sat-nav had gone.
An EMAS spokeswoman said: “This type of opportunistic crime robs the service of valuable equipment and jeopardises our ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
“The equipment was stolen whilst we were helping someone in need.”
The pensioner was taken to Royal Derby Hospital.
