LONDON — A gunman on a moped fired at a group of youths as they stood next to paramedics who were treating two stabbing victims.

Four teenagers including a 14-year-old boy were hit.

The two people stabbed were victims of a suspected tit-for-tat gang feud in south London, police revealed today. The attack started outside a takeaway restaurant in Brixton Road, Stockwell, last Thursday at about 8.40pm when a boy, aged 15, was stabbed in the arm and a 23-year-old man was knifed in the back.

They ran to nearby Vassall Road where they were met by ambulance crews and treated at the scene. Then, as paramedics were treating their wounds, a moped mounted the pavement and a lone rider fired shots towards the group of youths standing nearby.

The four hit were a 19-year-old, who was shot in the stomach, an 18-year-old shot in the leg, a 14 year-old boy, also hit in the leg, and another 18-year-old who was shot in both legs. All apart from the 19-year-old have now been released from hospital. His condition is described as serious but stable.

The suspect on the moped rode off towards Camberwell.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which targets gun crime in the black community, are appealing for witnesses to both events. Police said there had been no arrests.

Detective Inspector, Raymond Keating, from Trident said: “We do not know at this stage if the shooting and stabbing incidents are linked but it is one line of inquiry. We particularly need to speak to anyone who saw the incident in Brixton Road at 20.40 hours or who saw a Gilera moped in Vassall Road or Camberwell New Road at around 21.30 hours.”
