Medics unable to revive man

BENIDORM, Spain — A British angler has been electrocuted at a popular fishing lake in Spain.

Andrew Latham, 44, was killed when his fishing line hit an overhead power cable.

He is thought to have died instantly when he lifted the rod after landing a catch at Amadorio Dam, inland from Villajoyosa, near Benidorm.

A fellow angler called the emergency services but paramedics could not revive Andrew after Wednesday morning’s tragedy.

A Spanish Civil Guard spokesman said: “We are treating this as an accident.

“It appears that the victim’s fishing line hit a power cable as he lifted it above his head after catching a fish.”

Thousands of Brits flock to the Costa Blanca to enjoy the fishing season, with the Amadorio Dam being a prime spot for carp and trout.

It is not known whether Andrew lived in Spain or was on holiday. The Foreign Office said it had no information on the death.
