LODI, Calif. — The woman struck by a train in downtown Lodi on April 24 was breathing and her neck went into spasms after she was declared dead by an American Medical Response paramedic, according to a Lodi Fire Department report.
The report by Lodi Fire Department Capt. Brad Doell states he asked the unidentified paramedic, “Are you sure?” after the paramedic determined 31-year-old Lillian Flaherty was dead, based on his observations of her head wound.
Nearly an hour later, San Joaquin County coroner’s deputies arrived and noticed Flaherty was still breathing. She then was transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital, and then to the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento, where she died April 26.
