Okla. EMT assists in swimmer’s rescue while on vacation

By The Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City, OK)

Waurika emergency medical technician Jamie Richardson was expecting to have a quiet vacation with his family at Lake Murray State Park last weekend but plans changed when he noticed rescuers pulling a 29-year-old man from the water near Tee Pee Beach.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Mike Groeber said the Gainesville, Texas, man apparently had waded into the lake and stepped off a sandbar into deeper water.

Witnesses on the beach saw the man struggling, and several people swam out to help him. Groeber said witnesses told him the man was blue and not breathing when he was carried to shore.

Richardson grabbed blankets and oxygen from his car and began working on the victim. The man responded to the oxygen and soon began breathing on his own. When medics arrived the man refused further treatment and left the area.
