AKRON, Ohio — An Akron ambulance at the scene of a crash on State Route 224 was struck by an out-of-control truck Friday night.

Mark Williamson, spokesperson for the city of Akron, said the EMS crew responded to an initial crash near the intersection of SR-224 and I-277. In the first crash, the car had hit the center wall, causing the airbags to be deployed in the vehicle.

While the two paramedics were assisting the driver involved in the crash, a pickup truck slammed into the ambulance, according to Williamson. The paramedics were not in the squad at the time, but had to jump over a concrete barrier to avoid getting hit by their own vehicle.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident.
