COLUMBIA — A 7-year-old girl was taken to University Hospital after she was run over Sunday by a trailer in the 31st annual Columbia Jaycees Holiday Parade.

Shianne E. Nesmith of Columbia was in stable condition late Sunday afternoon after she was pulled under Fairview United Methodist Church’s Little Bethlehem float, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

Nesmith, who was a part of the Methodist church’s parade entry, approached the roughly 6-by 8-foot trailer to get more coins that other participants were handing out, according to the release. A piece of her clothing got caught on the trailer and pulled her down under the tire, leaving her with injuries to her left side.

The incident took place on Sixth Street, between Broadway and Cherry Street.
