CROCKETT — Passenger trains were delayed Monday morning after a man jumped from a walkway on the Alfred Zampa Bridge onto the railroad tracks below, authorities said.
Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies responded just after 10 a.m. and found the 44-year-old man, who was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, according to sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives, Lee said, and an autopsy will be performed Tuesday.
Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor, running between Oakland and Sacramento, was delayed about an hour, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said. The eastbound California Zephyr, which runs from Emeryville to Chicago, was also delayed 55 minutes, and the San Joaquin, which travels through the Central Valley, was delayed about 15 minutes.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 925-313-2500.
