Chief touts ability to hire firefighters; some are worried

MADISON, Ala. — Some Madison firefighters are not convinced that putting them to work on ambulances will benefit city residents.
The Madison City Council Monday night will consider an agreement between Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc. and Madison Fire & Rescue that would put a medically trained firefighter to work with one HEMSI paramedic on each of HEMSI’s two Madison ambulances.
Today, both HEMSI and Madison firefighters go to each of the city’s emergency medical calls and HEMSI takes the patients to the hospital.
