SAN DIEGO — A paramedic described to NBC 7/39 how he and his crew rescued an 80-year-old pilot who was rushed to the hospital after his small plane crashed at Montgomery Field on Thursday.
The plane went down early in the afternoon, and a call soon went out to the Copter 1 crew, which is based at the airfield. The crew, which is also based at Montgomery Field, loaded up, flew right to the scene and revived the pilot.
“He was still unconscious,” said firefighter paramedic Steve Vandewalle. “He woke up without too much difficulty but was still pretty disoriented and had a very large head injury. We bandaged that up. We were able to pull the airplane apart and extricate him.” ...
