Collier County leaders are faced with a high and narrow tightrope they must walk: providing adequate emergency services for a rapidly growing community without encroaching on individual property rights.
Collier County Planning Commission members recently rejected a proposed amendment to the county’s land development code that would allow a fire, police or Emergency Medical Services building to bypass the county’s conditional-use process in residential neighborhoods.
This week, Collier County commissioners face a similar dilemma. The Planning Commission is an advisory board and county commissioners aren’t required to go along with the panel’s decisions. ...
