A Baltimore Fire Department ambulance responding to a call in the 6500 block of Loch Raven Blvd. yesterday afternoon collided with a compact car near East Northern Parkway, injuring two paramedics and the driver of the car, a department spokesman said.

The motorist — who was trapped in her car — suffered head and muscular-skeletal injuries and was flown by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said the spokesman, Chief Kevin Cartwright.

Cartwright said the paramedics were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Firefighters responded within minutes of the 12:50 p.m. collision and began rescue procedures to extricate the woman, Cartwright said, noting that they had to cut away the roof to reach her.

The ambulance had moderate front-end damage, he said.

City police are investigating the accident.
