Assisted out of the water by boaters, bystanders and firefighters and paramedics

OXON HILL — A family of four is back on dry land after a scary accident involving a paddle boat they had rented to use on the Potomac River.

Fire officials said they were alerted at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to a possible water rescue involving a paddle boat at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill.

Officials said the family of four, including children aged 1 and 4, was using the boat when a strong wind pushed them into a shallow and rocky area near the shore. The boat does not appear to have overturned, but all four occupants ended up in the water.

They were assisted out of the water by boaters, bystanders and firefighters and paramedics. All appeared in good condition but were transported to a hospital for evaluation.
