4 Canadian paramedics injured responding to road collisions

Paramedics say in two of the motor vehicle collisions being attended to by paramedics, ‘inattentive motorists’ slammed into ambulances at the scene

OTTAWA — Paramedics say two ambulances with emergency lights flashing were rear-ended in Ottawa after responding to collisions during freezing rain late Sunday night, resulting in injuries to four paramedics.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service says two paramedics from each ambulance received non-life-threatening injuries.

They were treated by other paramedics and did not continue on duty.

The ambulances and vehicles that hit them were damaged and in both cases paramedics say the drivers of the other vehicles refused treatment.

The paramedic service says despite the road conditions, motorists were speeding past one crash scene on Highway 417 at 115 kilometres per hour.

Police reported several crashes but no serious injuries because of the weather.
